April.

In April, I rediscovered the joy of reading.

Books

How beautiful we were. Imbolo Mbue

This book was a discovery. I bought it time ago on Vinted without even realising that I had before me such a beautifully painful universe. Such beautiful pictorial depictions, acute reflexions about humanity and ou human struggles.

Kosawa made me curious about the story of Africa, gave me the perspective of the side of the suffering (I am already living it indirectly trough my Lebanese friends but they keep reserved somehow about it).

It shows the beauty of simplicity, of the little village where people live with only the required; the power of traditions; the power of values such as family and loyalty to your people.

I liked how it evolves through different perspectives and prismas, each chapter being a different person. I enjoyed every chapter.

Some critics I read where that they say Imbolo speaks about too many things, communism, politics, etc; but it didn’t bother me at all, since I think that our actual lives are, after all, as noisy as the book. We live in a noisy environment where everything coexists at the same time.

Malabo to Thula

“ never forget what it felt like to be a child when you grow up, never forget how it felt to be small and in need of protection, much of the suffering in the world was because of those who had forgotten that they too were once children.”
